San Antonio Spurs forward DeMar DeRozan had a huge game against state rival, Dallas Mavericks last Sunday. His performance was capped with a tough, mid-range jumper in the dying seconds of the game to put Dallas away. He was asked by Tom Orsborn of San Antonio Express-News about what he was thinking during that crucial play.

“Honestly, just trying to get to my spot, knowing the clock, taking my time, not rushing, just going to a move I have worked on so many times, concentrate, knock down the shot.”

As great as the night was for the veteran, he wishes that the win will light a fire under the Spurs. DeRozan shared his opinion on how the big win can do something for the team, which has been struggling as of late.

“You need that first snowball to kind of go down a mountain to start an avalanche – in a good way…,” said DeRozan. “We are hopeful a game like this versus a good team that is ahead of us can kind of catapult us in the right direction.”

Before this win over the Mavs, San Antonio lost five games in a row, including some overtime ones and heartbreakers. Losses like these can shake a team, especially one with so many young players. This is when the presence and leadership of seasoned players such as DeRozan become valuable.

The Spurs are currently ninth in the Western Conference and we can all be sure that the NBA's model franchise would want more than that.
