The San Antonio Spurs have assigned rookie Lonnie Walker IV to the G League's Austin Spurs, the team announced Sunday.
Austin is scheduled to hold practice in San Antonio from Sunday through Wednesday. Walker is currently rehabbing from a torn right meniscus, so this is an important step in his recovery.
Walker suffered the torn meniscus during preseason, right before starting point guard Dejounte Murray tore his ACL and was lost for the season. The initial timetable for Walker's return from surgery was six to eight weeks.
Walker played just five minutes in the preseason before the injury, scoring six points on 3-of-3 shooting.

In his lone season with the Miami Hurricanes, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard put up 11.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 27.8 minutes per game. He shot 41.5 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from 3.
San Antonio is off to a sluggish 9-10 start to the season. The Spurs have lost six of their last eight games, including a 135-129 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday.
The expectations for Walker shouldn't be too high as a rookie coming off knee surgery, but it'll be nice to see him back on the court and making his official NBA debut, whenever that is.
