Retired San Antonio Spurs legend Tim Duncan met welterweight UFC competitor Leon Edwards on Sunday. Edwards has in the past praised the future Hall of Famer and attempted to replicate his winning ways.

Here's the complimentary remarks Edwards had to say about the 15-time All-Star Duncan to ESPN via NBC News San Antonio:

Let me tell you a story about a man they used to call The Big Fundamental. His name – Tim Duncan.

He was great. All he did was win.

It is so amazing to me that Leon Edwards who may just be the “Tim Duncan” of the UFC right now is fighting in San Antonio.

Edwards stylizing himself the “Tim Duncan” of the organized MMA world isn't the first connection the former big man for the Spurs has to fighting. The oft quiet and reserved Duncan, who retired following the 2015-16 NBA season, has trained with Jason Echols, raising gloved fists and punching as a means to stay physically fit.

Edwards is a British-Jamaican fighter and despite chasing Duncan's “all he did was win” status, has a 10-2 record in the UFC. He defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in 2018 and three of his 10 UFC wins have come via knockouts or submissions. Prior to his tenure in UFC, Edwards fought in the United Kingdom's BAMMA.

Duncan was also born in the Caribbean, having been raised in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Duncan was the first overall pick selected by the Spurs in the 1997 draft. He won five championships with the franchise—three Finals MVPs—and won two league MVPs in his historic career.
