Phoenix Suns players seem to love team interim head coach Jay Triano, and if it’s up to them, the 59-year-old mentor would still run the show on the sidelines beyond this season.

Among those Suns, who have found Triano as a capable coach worth retaining are shooting guard Devin Booker and center Alex Len. Speaking with AZ Central, the two players expressed their hopes that the Suns' management would keep Triano, meaning he’d eventually shed his interim title for a permanent job title.

Booker has seen the team improve under Triano over a short period of time, and he’s clearly taken notice of that.

“Me and Triano have that relationship. He’s somebody I’m comfortable with and somebody I’ve been around for a long time,” Booker said. “I love Triano. I don’t make those calls (hiring a coach) but he’s been doing a wonderful job since he’s been here and I would vouch for him. He’s been really good.”

Len echoed Booker’s sentiments, suggesting that the Suns should consider installing Triano as full-time head coach.

“I definitely love Jay and love playing for him,” Len said. “It would be something to think about.”

Triano started calling the shots for Phoenix after the Suns went 0-3 to open the season that led to the firing of then-head coach Earl Watson. Since then, the Suns have gone 10-18. That’s not a sexy record to look at, but it’s a much better turnout for the Suns nonetheless.

While the Suns are unlikely to finish with a winning record this season, let alone clinch a playoff spot, they are looking more like a cohesive unit with Triano at the helm.

For now, Triano and the Suns players will just have to do their jobs and wait what happens next.
