Throughout the first few months of the season, there has been a hovering cloud over the franchise with All-star forward Paul George eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer.

There has been a growing belief that George could realistically depart after one season with Oklahoma City. With that in mind, his teammate Russell Westbrook had a simple plan to help convince the 27-year-old to re-sign long-term with the organization, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Russell Westbrook on whether he needs to make a sales pitch to Paul George. “The sales pitch is when we win a championship. Beat that pitch.”

Although Westbrook's comments are straightforward in his assessment of the situation, it's clear that the Thunder's overall success this season will have a tremendous impact on George's decision in free agency.

It also underlines the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers pose a significant threat to landing him in free agency next offseason. The Lakers have remained in the primary landing spot for the All-Star forward due to his well-known desire to play for his hometown team.

This was only further fueled by George stating on Tuesday that he had no regrets that Los Angeles' pursuit of him became a public matter. At the same time, he has stated that would have “loved to go back home” and play for the Lakers.

Nonetheless, George will have a major decision to make in free agency that have a major impact on his NBA future.
