As with every NBA All-Star Game, there are bound to be a few snubs from each perspective conference. Given the new dynamic of this year's festivities, it can come in the form of not being voted into the starting lineup.
Among the notable names to not make the cut was Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green. Interestingly enough, the reason being was due to the vote by players and media, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic:
Draymond Green was voted second by fans in All-Star voting, but was knocked out of a starting spot because media/players bumped him out.
The news comes as a bit of a surprise considering Green's love-hate relationship with fans throughout the league. However, it is clear they acknowledge his status as one of the NBA's elite players more than his fellow peers and media do.
Green is currently averaging 11.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game. While his numbers may seem a bit modest, they are indicative of the key role he has continued to hold down for the past several years. As expected, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year is making his presence felt with 1.3 blocks and 1.3 steals per game as well.
That said, he will undoubtedly be taken with one of the top picks amongst the reserves. Especially with teammate and star point guard Steph Curry being selected as team captain. It is also highly likely that Curry will do his best to pick teammate and star forward Kevin Durant first and foremost.
