The recent slew of injuries plaguing the Golden State Warriors has made the possibility of finishing second in the West all the more apparent with the team's best three offensive players out with their own complications.
Steve Kerr will have to see something other than his team's name atop the standings for the first time in his coaching career, as the Warriors have finished with the best overall record in the league during his three seasons as head coach of the team.
“It’s a harrowing experience,” Kerr said jokingly, according to Melissa Rohlin of the San Jose Mercury News. “I’m just trying to process it all. Second in the conference would just be devastating.”
The Houston Rockets sport a healthy 2.5-game lead over the Warriors, as their chances of garnering the top seed slip further away.

Golden State has prioritized health over anything else, able to do so with a vast 9.5-game lead over the third-place Portland Trail Blazers, which has served the team well in hopes to rehabilitate each of these injuries and not push anyone back before they're close to 100 percent.
“We are not really paying too much attention to the standings,” Kerr said of the 52-17 Warriors. “We are just playing. We are in a good position, big picture, no matter what happens because our injuries are all relatively minor. We are very hopeful and confident that we will have everybody back when it counts.”
At this point, entering the playoffs with a healthy roster trumps any other scenario, as even a No. 1 seed would be futile with the likes of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant missing from the lineup as they are now.
