Entering the season, it was expected to be another college football year where the Clemson Tigers were right in the hunt for a national title. What has transpired instead is a team that is 4-3 through seven games and an offense that has sputtered.

Certainly it isn't the year Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney had expected. Per CentreDaily.com, Swinney has been getting treated as though he has the plague.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney sees normally friendly faces avoiding his gaze around town. He also is getting plenty of “praying for you” texts and random letters in his mailbox, some from people he has never met. That's what happens when a national football championship contender is struggling to stay above .500.

It's “like I've got the plague,” Swinney said of Clemson's 4-3 mark.

It is surprising to see the Tigers have such a down year and play so poorly on offense. In five of their seven games, Clemson has scored less than 20 points. Swinney compared the season and the reaction to it in another very interesting way.

“It's like you got a stink on you and nobody wants to be around you,” he said this week. “We are going to be fine, I promise you.”

Clemson will try to get to 5-3 on the season in Week 9 when they take on the 3-4 Florida State Seminoles. It's a matchup that in terms of this year, features two underwhelming programs. Despite the down season, the schedule sets up pretty favorably for the Tigers the rest of the way.
