Along with the millions of people who had their lives altered by Hurricane Irma, football programs like the Florida Gators have also had some issue since the awful weather hit.
This isn't lost on anybody. No political stance, fan affiliation, or whatever other tomfoolery, is preventing any sane person from hoping for the best for the people in the state of Florida.
As for some of the good fallout from Hurricane Irma, communities have rallied around each other in support. One specific group of people, first responders, have been especially commendable during this trying time. It is why the Florida Gators football team will wear a decal to honor those folks this weekend.

Florida is also encouraging anybody who is able to donate to do so at https://www.oneamericaappeal.org/. If you have any money you could afford parting with, there aren't many better causes at the moment.
There was some question as to whether Saturday’s game would even be played in Gainesville this week. It is on, however, and Saturday is the team's home opener. It is against Tennessee.
The Gators aren't only helping out by wearing a decal. The school announced several initiatives to help in the best way that it can. That includes athletic director Scott Stricklin hosting a breakfast for workers in the community on Friday morning. There's also the formal recognition for thousands of first responders during Saturday’s game as well.
In addition, the school is also working with sponsors to help provide free tickets that will be donated to both evacuees displaced by Irma and by those who have been working to get conditions back to normal around the state.
