Nebraska Cornhuskers defensive coordinator Bob Diaco came under fire this week for no-showing a postgame presser. While some fans have his back — boo, media! — many others are not so politely hurling him under the bus.
According to the former UConn coach, this is all just a big misunderstanding.
“Coach (Mike Riley) thought it would be a good idea for me to just immediately address the group after being attacked this morning the way that I was,” Diaco said, as transcribed by The Omaha World-Herald. “I was under the impression that I didn’t have to do postgame media — that’s what I was told.”
This does seem plausible. As Bob Diaco would go on, he would express some understandable confusion over what he believed to be head coach Mike Riley's philosophy when it comes to postgame pressers. Basically, that Riley has a “one-voice” approach to media, and he assumed that one voice last week was the offensive coordinator's.

Furthermore, the Nebraska defensive coordinator takes offense that people believe him to be cowardice.
“Contrary to at least what was depicted, I’ve never run away from anything in my life,” Diaco said. “I’ve never not stood up and been accountable and accountable and responsible to my work and what I’ve been entrusted to do. That’s never happened and hasn’t and will not ever happen. So to be painted in that light or that way is absolutely ridiculous and very disappointing to me.”
