The Oklahoma Sooners received some surprising news when it was announced that freshman quarterback Caleb Williams was going to enter the transfer portal. The news didn't necessarily mean that Williams was leaving the Sooners, just keeping his options open.
Well, after the news that Oklahoma flipped a former UCLA QB recruit to join the Sooners, Williams might be keeping his transfer options especially open.
UCF transfer QB Dillon Gabriel announces he’s flipped from UCLA to Oklahoma. Wow!

This is a big move for the Sooners following the potential transfer of Williams. Dillon Gabriel, who was slated to begin classes at UCLA, will now pack his bags and head for Oklahoma.
As noted by Matt Miller of ESPN, it sure is hard to imagine the Sooners striving to flip Gabriel if they knew that Williams was coming back. Plus, Williams, who proved himself as a worthy starter, would only be interested in starting ahead of Gabriel if he returned to Oklahoma, which would start a QB controversy for new head coach Brent Venables.
Gabriel has thrown for over 8,000 yards, 70 touchdowns, and only 14 interceptions in three years with the UCF Knights. An aspiring NFL quarterback, Gabriel dealt with a shoulder injury last season, which limited him to just three games played.
Oklahoma is certainly taking a big chance on Dillon Gabriel, but it's one that could pay off, especially if they do ultimately end up losing Caleb Williams.
