Blame realignment for rivalries that made logistical sense going the way of the dinosaur. Do not, however, blame students at Texas for anything that involved wanting to play Texas A&M. Those kids are trying like all heck to get that in-state brethren battle reignited.
In fact, the student body at Texas has voted to reinstate the series.
Students voted overwhelmingly to support reinstating the series on the Longhorns’ non-conference schedule as part of a referendum pushed by the school’s student government.
The group posted the results on their Facebook page in a video and a whopping 96.71 percent of those voted to say that it’s time to play the series again. While the total number of votes cast was under 20 percent of the full student body, the survey found only 255 Longhorns who didn’t want to bring back the game.
The sample size is obviously small. Also worth noting that, per the usual, students don't exactly have the most power while paying their way through college.

Dismiss the results all we want, we must keep in mind that there’s one big name who is on board with re-starting the venture in head coach Tom Herman. His voice/vote does very much matter.
“Any time the student body rallies around a cause, I think the powers that be listen,” Herman said Tuesday, according to the Dallas Morning News. “Now, the powers that be are in that position because they have to make decisions.”
Only time will tell if the Longhorns and Aggies will face each other soon. It remains neat that the students (or, at least 20 percent of them) really want it to happen.
