Ben Simmons appears to be closing in on his debut for the Brooklyn Nets. On Tuesday, team general manager Sean Marks provided a crucial update on the former Rookie of the Year's current status, and by the looks of it, it seems like we're going to be seeing Simmons take the floor for his new team soon.

In the same interview, Marks also discussed what he believes Simmons will be able to bring to the table. The Nets gave up quite a haul to bring the 25-year-old guard to Brooklyn and they expect him to play a key role alongside team superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving:

“Just to have that versatility, and I’m going to keep harping on the versatility that he brings offensively and defensively,” said Marks, via Tom Dowd of NBA.com. “It’s going to be a matchup nightmare for other teams. There’s no question that he’s already proved that he can do that, and it takes a little bit of a load off of Kevin. Maybe it puts Kevin in a different light. Maybe it puts Kyrie in a different set of circumstances where they don’t have to handle the ball all the time. They can get out there and run the wings and vice versa. Ben can run those wings and when we see how fast he is at spreading the floor, I think if we’re coming at waves against the opposition, playing at pace, that should prove good for us.”

Nets fans should definitely feel excited about Ben Simmons' upcoming debut. As Marks said, the 6-foot-11 guard is expected to make an immediate impact as soon as he starts playing again.

There is no denying that Simmons is not the most offensively gifted player out there. However, it is also a well-established fact that his defense is second to none. The Nets already have two of the most explosive scorers in the NBA in Durant and Irving which should allow Simmons to take a backseat on the offensive end. He will, however, serve as this team's anchor on defense, leaving KD and Kyrie focused more on offense.

This all looks good on paper, but in the end, nothing is guaranteed. Simmons will need to prove that he can function well alongside two other stars in Brooklyn. He has a tremendous opportunity to resurrect his career, and not to mention, a shot at an NBA title.
