The relationship between NBA players and referees are horrible, to say the least. During the 2017-18 NBA season, there has been an outpouring of emotion from both parties. At the All-Star break, the league had to get involved and set up a meeting between the two entities in Los Angeles.

It now appears that the meeting was counterproductive. There are still too many questionable calls that are starting to undermine the integrity of NBA officials. Eventually, this can cause major problems for the league, but right now, the damage can already be seen.

Interestingly, Five Thirty-Eight has been keeping up with statistics that highlight which teams receive the most blown calls. This is simply unacceptable that a statistic such as this has to be published, but it's a sign of the state of the league today. Surprisingly, the Brooklyn Nets are leading the league in most blown calls.

Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie has recently been frustrated with the lack of calls for his team and cites disrespect from the referees as the root of the problem.

“To see the same type of respect not reciprocated is very frustrating for us. “The other thing that’s very frustrating as well: We have these meetings as teams, or with [the players’ association], about respect, so we want to treat everybody with respect, right? Because everybody’s doing their job, and they’re trying their best, including us, [even if] we turn the ball over or calls are missed or whatever it is. But when you approach somebody, and they shush you or they wave you off like you’re not a man, or something of that nature, that’s also very frustrating.”

The league definitely needs to look more into this trend moving forward. It's clear that teams are starting to become irritated with the way games are being officiated.
