The Brooklyn Nets are unlikely to trade for Minnesota Timberwolves small forward Jimmy Butler, according to a report from Brian Lewis of The New York Post.

Butler, who has requested a trade from the Timberwolves, listed the Nets as one of the teams he wouldn't mind being traded to. The four-time All-Star and his camp, however, have told Minnesota Butler prefers to be traded to the Miami Heat.

Caris LeVert, DeMarre Carroll and Allen Crabbe were the three players mentioned in a possible Butler trade, but the Nets plan to play all three significant minutes this season. Brooklyn is prioritizing cap space for 2019, when they’ll potentially have money to sign two max players. The franchise is expected to pursue Kyrie Irving should he decline his 2019-20 player option with the Boston Celtics, and also Butler if he gets traded to a team that he doesn't sign a contract extension with.

The Timberwolves acquired Jimmy Butler last summer from the Chicago Bulls on draft night. In 59 games last season, Butler averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists, shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from 3.

Butler suffered a torn right meniscus in late February and underwent surgery. He did return near the end of the season and helped the Timberwolves make the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. However, Butler did not fly back on the team plane after the loss and went to Los Angeles instead. He clashed with Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins multiple times during the season.
