In his first three years in the league, Brooklyn Nets point guard D'Angelo Russell has developed into one of the more intriguing young players.

Russell has shown the ability to be an effective offensive playmaker with the ability to both create his own shot and for others as well. All of this has led to NBA 2K releasing on Saturday morning that he has earned an 83 overall rating for the upcoming NBA 2k19 video game.

This is a respectable rating for Russell given what he has shown in his brief time in the NBA. He is a legitimate scorer that can heat up from beyond the arc while being able to get to the paint off the dribble. Russell was hedging toward possibly putting together a career-best campaign in his first year with the Nets before a few nagging knee injuries began to play a factor as he only played in 48 games averaging 15.5 points on 41.4 percent shooting from the floor and 32.4 percent from distance with 5.2 assists, and 3.9 rebounds per contest. This included

This saw him become just the third player in franchise history to record at least 650 points, 200 assists, 175 rebounds and 80 made 3-pointers in their first 45 games of a season joining the likes of Vince Carter (2008-09) and Jason Kidd (2005-06). He was also the first Nets player in nearly eight years to notch a triple-double.

The 22-year-old has shown plenty of potential, but he hasn't broken through yet to the next level as he has shown to be a capable starting point guard but has only shown flashes of All-Star potential that could make him a cornerstone player for Brooklyn for the next several years. There have been some questions about his play defensively at times, but that is also an area that he could show improvement over time as he rounds out his overall game in what could be a breakout 2018-19 campaign.

In the meantime, Russell may have some extra motivation with the 2K rating to prove that he deserves to be rated higher on the popular video game.
