Kevin Durant will likely miss the entirety of the 2019-20 season after rupturing his Achilles’ tendon in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, but he will do so for a different team after signing with the Brooklyn Nets along with his pal Kyrie Irving.

In a recent interview on The Athletic’s Knuckleheads Podcast (featuring former LA Clippers teammates Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles), Durant spoke candidly about what led to his injury and how he felt as it was happening.

Alex Smith of SNY transcribed some of Durant’s quotes here regarding the build-up to the seismic injury.

“I really was like, s—, I done came down here, my J feeling nice, I'm hitting bottom, straight bottom, pulling up on the break, and I'm actually playing and sliding my feet a little bit. So my s— feeling good, and then I tried to, I felt like I was back at the park, step back real hard, and then I'm telling you it was like boom, and I felt it immediately. It was like a pop and I was like ‘Nah.' … It felt like I was walking on a hill and my right foot was on like a slant … so like I was walking down a hill.

Durant summarized the entire experience succinctly:

“My whole career just went flashing in front of my eyes.”

Durant’s injury is a veritable basketball tragedy, but let’s hope the surefire Hall-of-Famer will be able to return with a swiftness from this devastating injury next season and suffer no ill effects for the rest of his career.
