After being expected to partake in road games for the Brooklyn Nets following a recent decision from the team, point guard Kyrie Irving was placed in COVID-19 protocols. His 2021-22 NBA debut will be further delayed by his placement in the NBA's protocols.

Irving has been posting controversial messages and images to social media throughout the year, and now the point guard has likened himself to Muhammad Ali, in what may be his wildest reach yet.

Mavs writer Mike Taddow screenshotted the photo from Irving's Instagram and shared the image to Twitter.

Irving, who has sat out the 2021-22 NBA season while he opposes the league's COVID mandate and stands up for his beliefs, has compared himself and his actions to that of some social activists. His latest comparison, however, is somewhat of a stretch, and folks on Twitter let him know about it, suggesting he was disrespecting the legacy left behind by the late, great Ali.

Irving's tenure in Brooklyn has been contentious, to say the least, and just when it seemed as if the star point guard was finally going to suit up for his team, he gets placed into the NBA's COVID protocols. Clearly, he feels he's being mistreated in this situation, and is now likening himself to Ali, one of the world's most renowned civil activists.

The Brooklyn Nets were slated to play the Denver Nuggets on Sunday but the game was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak plaguing the Nets, who have as many as 10 players in COVID protocols.
