Nets star Kyrie Irving reacts to Derek Chauvin guilty verdict
Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving has spoken out about the recent development surrounding the George Floyd case. Former Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin has been found guilty for the killing of Floyd and is now awaiting what is expected to be a lengthy prison sentence.
Irving noted how this development serves as a significant win for the entire nation, but he was quick to remind everyone that the journey is far from done (h/t Brian Lewis of the New York Post):

Irving makes an excellent point here. This recent development speaks volumes of the current state of the nation’s justice system, and it’s an undeniably huge step in the fight against systemic racism.
However, it does not take away from the fact that George Floyd’s life was unjustly taken away from him. Chauvin is going to be facing the repercussions of his actions but it won’t bring Floyd back to life. The same can be said for the multitude of victims that have lost their lives to racial injustice and police brutality.
Chauvin, the police officer who held his knee to Floyd’s throat for about nine minutes, now faces up to 75 years in prison after he was found guilty for second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. He is expected to receive his sentence after eight weeks.
Kyrie Irving made his statement following Brooklyn’s 134-129 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. Kyrie led his side to the win with a team-high 32 points, two rebounds, and eight assists.
