Veteran small forward Garrett Temple says star point guard Kyrie Irving recruited him to the Brooklyn Nets.

Irving put together a list of free agents that he wanted to play with and Temple was on the list. The swingman signed a one-year, $4.67 million contract with the Nets after speaking to Irving.

“I talked to Kyrie on July 2 and he told me that he put together a list of free agents that he wanted to play with. I don’t know who else was on there, but he told me that I was on his list,” Temple told Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype. “He said he knew what I brought to the table and he enjoyed competing against me. Obviously, I’d have to guard him every time we played against him, so he knows what kind of competitor I am and what I can do. We had a great conversation after we had both committed.”

Garrett Temple split time last season with the Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers. He played in 75 games and averaged 7.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 42.2 percent from the field, 34.1 percent from beyond the arc and 74.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Temple is a sound three-point shooter, wing defender and locker room guy. Kyrie Irving made the right call by recruiting Temple to the Nets.
