Could the Brooklyn Nets' offseason be more ho hum than previously thought? If the latest buzz on Kyrie Irving rings true, that might be the case.

The reports have flowed throughout the offseason that Kyrie Irving's future in Brooklyn is in limbo. The Nets were rumored to be unwilling to sign him to a long-term deal like he wants. There was also speculation of a possible trade in the works should negotiations stall completely.

But according to Nets reporter for the New York Post Brian Lewis, all signs point to the All-Star point guard coming to terms on a new deal to stay with best friend Kevin Durant in Brooklyn:

Despite a report that the Nets are “outright unwilling” to re-sign Kyrie Irving long term — and speculation about him being traded — all indications strongly point toward a reunion between Brooklyn and its All-Star point guard.

Irving has until June 29 to decide whether he will opt out of the final $36.5 million year of his contract for 2022-23 and become a free agent. But both Nets and league sources told The Post an extension is more likely.

Kyrie Irving is far from the ideal franchise player given his enigmatic behavior. His issues off the court have proven to be a burden for the Nets this past season. However way you feel about Irving's beliefs, from a purely basketball standpoint it was detrimental to his team.

But the reality of the matter is that Kyrie Irving's talent on the court is simply too tantalizing to ignore – and for the Nets to let him go for next to nothing.
