While the Brooklyn Nets may be missing Kyrie Irving, they would be more than delighted to see Patty Mills thriving with the team in his stead.

Mills has proven to be a beneficial signing for the Nets when they got him during the offseason, especially amid the Irving situation. Kyrie is currently in exile as he continues to refuse getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Due to New York's mandate, unvaccinated players cannot suit up in home games–which is why Brooklyn decided to sideline Irving for all matches until he becomes a full-time participant.

In his absence, though, several other players have stepped up. One of which is Mills, who absolutely balled out against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. The former San Antonio Spurs guard exploded for 29 points on 9-of-12 shooting from deep. In the process, he broke the franchise record for most triples off the bench, per Stat Muse.

Patty Mills have been a consistent off-the-bench contributor for the Nets, and his presence undoubtedly lessens the burden of Kyrie Irving's absence even for a bit.

For what it's worth, Kevin Durant spoke recently how the Irving situation has helped the Nets overall as they figure out their own roles and how they can help the team win games.

“Everybody’s been locked-in on that since Day 1 of the season. Just, like, let’s focus on who’s in the locker room and once that situation figured out, we’ll adjust back to that. But for now, everybody’s just trying to figure out their roles on this team. And at this point, it’s been exciting trying to figure that out,” Durant said.

Sure Mills is no Kyrie, but the Nets will surely be ecstatic to see the Aussie playmaker making his presence felt night in and night out.
