NBA Hall of Famer Steve Nash made headlines in the offseason after he was named head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. Halfway into his first stint as a lead tactician, Nash boasts a 24-13 record for second in the East.

Now, in a recent interview, Nash isn't letting his relative success with the Nets get into his head.

Nash pointed out that coaching is more than commanding his players what to do both in the game and during film sessions. Besides, he's getting his feet wet and constantly adjusting every day.

“It’s a natural progression to gain comfort on the sideline, comfort in practice, comfort in film sessions,” Steve Nash said, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “It’s not just coaching. There’s a lot of other stuff that goes into being a coach; that’s something that takes time to adapt to.

Nash has proven the critics wrong who slammed the Nets for hiring a newbie coach. Now, they are the favorites to represent in East in the NBA Finals and perhaps even win it all. However, the former MVP isn't resting on his laurels.

“I don’t say, ‘Man, I’m a way better coach than I was 10 days ago.’ I’m gaining comfort, I’m learning, I’m getting to know my team and our challenges. … [The players] deserve the credit. … But I don’t like to sit here and say, ‘Oh yeah, I’m just coaching the heck out of my team. I’m balling over here.’ Take it one step at a time,” the Nets coach furthered.

Whether Nash ends up as one of the best player-turned-coaches in history is a matter of wait-and-see. But so far, he's doing one heck of a job with the Nets.
