Ready for a bloody new MaXXXine trailer? One just dropped, and it’s dripping with horror-filled goodies.

The new A24 film arrives on July 5 and will mark the final film for the X trilogy. The latest trailer, which is the second official trailer to surface, features a throwback look and some glimpses of what to expect from Mia Goth, who plays the title character.

About the new MaXXXine trailer

It starts with a trailer for a fake movie called The Puritan II, with a Puritan about to eat an apple. From there, we hear, “Cut! The blood’s wrong” from Elizabeth Debicki (Elizabeth Bender). A hand is dipped into a bucket of fake blood. This is also where we see Maxine Minx, who shakes hands with the actress and has a face soaked in a bloody mess.

“Molly Bennett, meet Maxine Minx,” the director says.

Bennett (Lily Collins) replies with her outstretched hand, “Pleased to meet you.” After they shake, Molly realizes her hand has fake blood all over it, and now Maxine’s hand is covered as well.

“We’ve all got blood on our hands now,” the director states.

The preview then cuts to a private investigator (Kevin Bacon) reading a newspaper that reads, “The Texas porn star massacre.”

“The past ain’t finish with you, Maxine,” the investigator says.

The trailer indicates Maxine is in Los Angeles and on the verge of fame in Debicki’s films while her past is returning to haunt her.

She is being stalked, and it’s unclear who exactly it is that’s doing it except “the Devil” — as she puts it. We see VHS tapes get splattered with blood, so is Maxine going to survive this ordeal or not?

Maxine was last seen in 2022’s X, directed and produced by Ti West, and was a homage to vintage horror movies. The Wrap states X followed a group of ’70s pornographers (including Maxine) who set out to make a new film in Texas on a farm. Soon, they were taken down by the owners. This led to the film Pearl, which was also released in 2022. It takes place at the end of World War I and follows the title character, the old woman in X who terrorizes Maxine in X.

And this brings us to MaXXXine, which West also directed. Maxine is the only survivor of the massacre in Texas, and she’s now pursuing her dream of becoming a famous actress while avoiding a stalker in 1985. But trouble seems to lurk around every corner.

All the films in the series have a vintage look (like Texas Chainsaw Massacre) that gives you a sense of realism. Judging by the trailers, MaXXXine will fit into the trilogy nicely and wrap up this intriguing chapter in Maxine’s life. Will she become the famous actress that she dreams of? Or end up murdered like her colleagues in Texas?

We’ll find out when the blood-dripping horror of MaXXXine is released on July 5.
