Newcastle United are linked with a move for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres this summer. The Sweden International is considered one of the best strikers in the Championship this season.

According to the reports from 90min, Newcastle are looking at the possibility of Gyokeres’ signature. However, they are aware that they are going to receive competition from West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers for his signature.

Newcastle United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth is a big fan of Gyokeres. During his tenure at Brighton, Ashworth sold the striker for just £1 million. Now, the Englishman has been impressed by Gyokeres’ development at Coventry and looks to bring him to St. James Park.

It remains to be seen how much Coventry value their talisman. However, Gyokeres’ relationship with Ashworth and Newcastle United’s Champions League qualification could prove fundamental in this potential transfer.

Newcastle United have come out of nowhere this season. The Magpies secured Champions League football as they finished 4th, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, respectively. This is the first time since 2003 that Newcastle have achieved this feat. They also reached the final of the Carabao Cup, losing 2-0 to Manchester United in the ultimate game.

Although the accomplishment is big, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is aware of the responsibilities the club has this summer. It is important that the club makes reinforcements to create a spine ready to compete across all fronts. It must be noted that this will also be the first time that the former Bournemouth manager will manage a Champions League game.
