Ole Miss wide receiver DK Metcalf has established himself as one of the premier talents in the 2019 NFL Draft. It seems his skill set has even drawn him comparisons to wide receiver Josh Gordon.

DK Metcalf turned heads in college and at the NFL Scouting Combine. He is already being compared to Gordon for his stellar athleticism, via NFL.com:

Big, explosive talent with projectable upside to become a home-run threat as a WR1. Teams seek out pass-catchers with rare height, weight and speed dimensions and Metcalf has those for days. While he has the talent to become a full-field threat, Metcalf is still an unpolished gem who was the second-best receiver on his college team. Until his skill-set is more developed, he could begin his career as a hit-or-miss long-ball threat. However, once it clicks, defenses could struggle to find solutions for him.

The comparison is certainly understandable. Both players boast freakish athleticism thanks to their rare combination of immense size and explosive speed.

Despite being 6'3″ and weighing in at 230 lbs., Metcalf still managed to clock a 4.33 40-yard dash and a 40.5-inch vertical jump. Gordon is one of few receivers to put up numbers such as these.

Despite all his gifts, selecting Metcalf does pose some risks. It is no secret that he is still far from a finished product and still has much more polishing to do before he can be considered a bonafide No. 1 wideout. Fortunately, it is clear that Metcalf does not carry as much off-field baggage as Gordon did coming out of college.

This could make him a much safer bet in the long run than his NFL comparison.
