Following the NFL Combine, there were many critics that began to question the talent of Derrick Brown as an NFL prospect. Just two months until the 2020 NFL Draft is set to take place, Brown has a message for his doubters.

“Well, you know, if you care about the three-cone drill as much as handling a double-team, then hey, go for it,” Brown said after Auburn’s pro day on Friday via Tom Green of al.com. “If that’s what you think, that’s what you think. I can’t do nothing about it.”

In his four seasons at Auburn, Brown put together a resume that should make him a first-round pick in the NFL. With a knack for causing chaos in the backfield, Brown finished with 33 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles at Auburn.

However, following his fantastic collegiate career, Brown disappointed at the NFL Combine. The standout interior defensive lineman would run a 5.16 40-yard dash — the fourth-slowest time among defensive linemen. Also, some scouts were concerned with Brown having the slowest three-cone drill in 8.22 seconds.

Now, after his performance in Indianapolis, some scouts are wary of selecting of the Auburn product. At the same time, there are going to be teams that aren't swayed by Brown's lack of agility in drills that don't determine what he does on the field.

Throughout college, Brown flashed a perfect blend of quickness and strength in the trenches, causing havoc on opposing offenses. Rather than basing his draft stock on his combine outing, teams should watch Brown's tape in college. After all, didn't teams learn not to judge players on the three-cone drill after missing out on D.K. Metcalf?
