Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback and 2021 NFL Draft prospect Justin Fields is signing on with the same agency representing Houston Texans signal-caller Deshaun Watson.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Fields has signed with Athletes First and agent David Mulugheta.
Mulugheta likely has his hands full trying to navigate the Watson trade saga and a calamitous situation in Houston. But he has added another star client to the mix ahead of the NFL Draft.
Fields is expected to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board after Clemson quarterback and presumptive No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence. He guided the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff National Championship, where they ultimately came up short against a historically good Alabama squad.
The former Georgia recruit developed into a star at OSU. Fields threw for over 3,200 yards and 41 touchdowns against just three interceptions in his first season with the Buckeyes. He was every bit as good in 2020, completing over 70 percent of his passes for 2,100 yards and 22 touchdowns in eight games.
Fields is a strong pocket passer, but he also excels at using his legs to make plays. He rushed for 484 yards and 10 touchdowns in his sophomore season before racking up nearly 400 yards and averaging 4.7 yards per carry on the ground in 2020.
Just where Fields will end up is something of a mystery. Multiple teams picking in the top 10 could be looking for a franchise quarterback of the future. These include the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos. Of course, at least three of those teams have big decisions to make with respect to their current quarterbacks.
In any case, Mulugheta could well market Fields as having a similar skill set to his other star client ahead of this April's draft.
