With the 2021 NFL Draft just around the corner, a ton of talents are already drawing comparisons to some of the game's best players. Alabama quarterback Mac Jones was the latest name to be given a premature comparison, as he has reportedly been seen as similar to the legendary Joe Montana leading up to the draft, per former NFL head coach Jim Mora Jr. via Grant Cohn.

It is still uncertain which particular aspect of Jones' game is drawing similarities with that of Montana's. However, it can't be denied that it was a lofty comparison as the latter is known to be one of the most decorated quarterbacks that the league has ever seen.

He previously became the face of the San Francisco 49ers from 1979 to 1992 where he steered them to four Super Bowl titles. He also earned eight Pro Bowl appearances and two NFL MVP awards at the height of his career.

Needless to say, Jones is currently nowhere near the stature of Montana, though he is already off to a good start. He recently concluded his three-year collegiate career with the Crimson Tide where he had a stellar junior season as the team's starting QB. Jones notched a ton of individual awards in the 2020 season as he successfully led his team to a SEC title and a national championship victory.

The 22-year-old gunslinger can prove the comparisons aren't as ridiculous as they seem once he steps into the league, as the 49ers currently have a chance to nab him with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, he will definitely have to jockey with the likes of other highly-touted prospects in Zach Wilson and Justin Fields to have a chance to don the red and gold.

Regardless of his destination, Mac Jones will strive to give his best to live up to the lofty comparisons and meet the expectations surrounding him. Joe Montana seems like a stretch, but you can't count any QB having a legendary career before the NFL Draft. After all, you can strike gold even with the 199th pick.
