Legendary New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees raised eyebrows in his response to a report saying he would be leaving NBC as an NFL analyst after just one season. Brees claimed nothing had been decided yet about his future and then named a bunch of things he could do, including the possibility of playing football again.

While many wondered if Brees was serious about this, Saints head coach Dennis Allen expressed his belief that “the comment was made in jest.” ESPN's Ed Werder added more to the conversation, saying he doesn't believe Brees was being serious and explaining a big reason why … he just had left shoulder surgery two weeks ago:

This should certainly dump a whole lot of cold water on speculation of a Drew Brees return to the NFL. Why would a 43-year-old Brees return to the league in the middle of a season coming off surgery and not being able to do any type of real preparation? As good as Brees was in his heyday, that would be insanity to do now.

In all likelihood, Brees was probably just messing around with his response after it had leaked that he was parting ways with NBC. We still have to wait and see if that rumor winds up being true, though there's plenty of reason to believe that it is.

Stay tuned for Drew Brees' next move.
