Sports broadcasting can be a stressful job. While others might think that it's as simple as providing a bit of insight and calling a few plays while kicking back and watching a game (and of course, getting paid for it), there's actually much more to it than just that. Just ask Fox Sports announcer Joe Buck, who recently admitted that he and Hall of Fame quarterback turned broadcaster Troy Aikman used to enjoy a drink or two while covering games.

Here's Buck's hilarious interview on a recent appearance on The Colin Cowherd Podcast:

It didn't seem like Buck had had a couple of drinks before he made the admission. It looks like he legitimately just wanted to share a unique trade secret that he has found success with for many, many years in the broadcast booth:

“We have had that glass of bourbon in the booth,” Buck told Cowherd during a conversation about building chemistry with Aikman (h/t Jason Owens of Yahoo Sports). “Although it’s not bourbon, it’s tequila, splash of Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice.

“I went through a couple years where in the first inning of every postseason baseball game, I had the runner go get the biggest beer that the stadium sold. And I had it sitting there, and I would sip it from time to time to remind myself to relax and have fun. I’m just doing a game.”

As it turns out, this has been a long-standing tradition for Joe Buck. It was only logical that he would carry on with the same the moment he switched sports — and in the process, serve as a bit of a bad influence for Aikman, too:

“And I brought that over to football,” Buck continued. “But because Troy is a man of finer tastes, beer somehow became tequila, Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice.

“We haven’t done it in a long time now, but it was good for a stretch, and I feel like it’s a good mental trigger to just chill and remind yourself that you’re not refueling a F-16 in mid-flight. You’re doing a sporting event, and if you treat it like anything other than that you’re doing yourself a disservice.”

Excellent point from Joe here. At the end of the day, it still boils down to enjoying and appreciating the entertainment factor of any sporting event. It sure has worked for Buck and Aikman.
