The New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers intend to bolster their offensive line in the 2019 draft by taking a close look at University of Washington offensive lineman Kaleb McGary.

The Packers hold two first-round picks this year, the 12th and 30th. The Patriots have only one first-round pick. It's a pick they have often: the 32nd.

The Packers are projected to snag a top-tier tight end with their first pick, likely Iowa's T.J. Hockenson. Their second pick will likely be used on the best available player on the board. If the Packers hope to return to the postseason, they're going to need a healthy Aaron Rodgers. Selecting a solid lineman to help avoid another Rodgers injury would be in the team's best interest heading into the draft.

The Patriots are also in need of a lineman like McGary, since they lost Trent Brown in free agency as well as Nate Solder the season prior. Tom Brady isn't getting any younger or any more mobile, so getting him protection behind a solid line would assure a higher chance of enabling him to stay healthy. Although New England always seems to find a way to make a lengthy run in the postseason, that would surely be impossible without its future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Both Green Bay and New England are in similar situations, but the Packers have the upper hand, since they are a couple picks ahead of the Patriots this year.
