Earlier this offseason, Ted Ginn Jr. stated that he'd bet $10,000 that he could beat any player in a race. That got players in the NFL talking, culminating in a pay-for-play event called 40 Yards of Gold in late June that had some of the fastest players in the NFL participating.

But according to Will Sarubbi, Jeff Badet's agent, his client has not been paid for participating in the event yet. Badet is a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings and was promised $25,000 for running in the event, according to Sarubbi.

Participants were apparently given checks when they arrived at the event but were told not to cash them until further notice. Since then, the players were told not to cash the checks but to send their bank account numbers instead.

Sean Lindsey, a lawyer that represents one of the participants has said that the money has yet to come to his client yet.

“As to whether the money’s there or not, I don’t know,” Lindsey said, per Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith. “I hope it is. The one thing I despise the most in this industry is individuals trying to take advantage of professional athletes. I don’t know if that’s what’s going on here. I hope not. But these guys need to get paid.”

The whole thing sounds like a disaster and a football version of the infamous Fyre Festival. Charles Stewart, a co-founder of 40 Yards of Gold” said that everyone will be paid but didn't specify when or how. Currently, the winner of the tournament, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, is owed $1 million and hasn't received any of the money.
