NFL players would prefer Colin Kaepernick to be their play caller over Blake Bortles.

According to a questionnaire survey from The Athletic, where it asked 85 of the league's defensive players “should Kaepernick be on an NFL roster?”

81 said yes, two said no, and two others had “no comment.”

One quarterback who 20 percent of the voters mentioned as a replaceable option was Bortles, just in front of former Bills quarterback Nathan Peterman who had 18 percent of the votes. Eli Manning (New York Giants), Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills), Jameis Winston (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Andy Dalton (Cincinnati Bengals) and Josh Rosen (Arizona Cardinals) all had multiple votes, as did the Washington Redskins and Bills QB rosters.

Through the Jacksonville Jaguars' woes this year, missing the playoffs at 5-11 after making it to the AFC title game in 2018, Bortles was benched for Cody Kessler in November.

Bortles completed just 60.3 percent of his passes, with 13 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 12 games played this season.

Kaepernick on the other hand, hasn't played since his national anthem protest in 2016.

He is only 31 years old and still looks to be in decent football shape, but his political presence continues to be the only thing keeping him from being a starting quarterback again.

Kaepernick has thrown for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns in his professional career.
