In the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake, we have seen a lot of protests in the sports world. On Wednesday, the WNBA and NBA both cancelled games as players did not want to play considering the situation. Several MLB teams did not play on Wednesday, and now the NFL is stepping into action.

In the NFL we have already seen teams like the Detroit Lions cancelling practice. And on Thursday we got a much bigger taste of that.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, nine NFL teams have already cancelled or postponed practices and activities in the wake of the shooting.

For those keeping track, that is the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Washington Football Team, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, and Los Angeles Chargers.

It’s hard to imagine more teams are not going to cancel activities. They will be joining that long growing list that also includes the Lions.

The sports world has been involved heavily in social activism lately. And this is just another example of them stepping up to do what they believe is right.

We are seeing a lot of teams and even individual players make a stand and voice their opinion. Currently, the most popular form seems to be cancelling all action.

While some people may be upset by this, it’s incredibly hard to deny that it is working. The cancellations and postponements have certainly got people talking, and that is what the players, teams and leagues want.

So far, nine teams in the NFL have cancelled or postponed practice and activities on Thursday. How many more will follow in their footsteps?
