Players throughout the NFL have rallied behind the recent news pertaining to the guilty verdict that has just been bestowed on former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for his role in the death of George Floyd back in May 2020. On Tuesday, the presiding jury found Chauvin guilty of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr was one of the first to react to the guilty verdict as he posted a screenshot of the news report on Twitter:

Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs teammate Tyrann Mathieu both had a similar reaction upon learning the news:

Chauvin, 45, was initially arrested a few days after Floyd's killing. It was Chauvin who had his knee on Floyd's neck for roughly nine minutes and it was this act that ultimately led to the death of Floyd as he was being arrested. After a lengthy trial, a verdict has finally been reached and it is one that the greater majority had been hoping for.

For former NFL safety Ryan Clark, the 41-year-old sent out a reminder that this a key development in the battle against systemic racism in the country:

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Johnson pointed out that while this was a positive outcome, this won't change the fact that George Floyd's life has been unjustly taken away from him and his family:

In their official statement, the NFL echoed the sentiments of Jordan:

For what it's worth, Chauvin is expected to face up to 75 years in prison following this verdict. He is set for sentencing in eight week's time.
