Former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. It appears his competitive edge knew no bounds as it translated off the field as well.
Former NFL cornerback Ty Law was one of the players that was able to get well-acquainted with Manning during their trips to the Pro Bowl. He said during an appearance on WEEI that he would attempt to get rival players drunk in an effort to get information on them:
“Peyton would try to get you … once you get over to the Pro Bowl, you're on the same team. Peyton try to get you drunk and then try to dig into your brain … he feed you these mai tais.”
The prospect of Manning encouraging his fellow players to get inebriated in Hawaii certainly makes for some epic stories. This one is indicative of the lengths he was willing to go in order to gain the edge on his opponents the following year.
After all, there are not many people that would have the opportunity to share a few drinks with a player of Manning's caliber. The fact that he attempted to do so with Law hardly comes as a surprise considering the rivalry between the Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots at the time.
Although Law did his best not to take the bait, there is no telling how many impressionable, young players were later exposed by Manning after inadvertently giving him a piece of crucial information during vacation in the offseason.
