Why The Browns Could Win
The Cleveland Browns have had many ups and downs this season. They have faced a very tough schedule and through 14 games they have managed to be dead even with 7 wins and 7 losses. They faced the Las Vegas Raiders last week and came up short by two points. This was a very important game for Cleveland and to lose by only 2 points was devastating. The Browns will look to bounce back as they face yet another tough opponent. Cleveland has shown time and time again that they have what it takes to be a competitive team in this league. If everything goes their way they could manage to pull of their most impressive upset of the season.
The leader and quarterback of this Browns team is Baker Mayfield. Mayfield was unavailable last week against the Raiders and in his place stood Nick Mullens. Mullens threw for less than 150 yards and only 1 touchdown, so the return of Baker Mayfield would be a welcome sight for Cleveland. While the former first overall pick has struggled this season, he is still the man in Cleveland. When Baker is on the field he leads this team and he does so better than any of the other options that the Browns have. On the season Baker has thrown for over 2,600 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. If he can have a big game against their toughest competition yet, then maybe the Browns could win this one.
On the other side of the ball, the Browns defense has been the true hero in Cleveland. The Browns rank 4th in the league in total yards allowed, limiting opponents to less than 322 yards of offense per game. Cleveland limits opposing backfields to just over 106 rushing yards per game and hold opposing quarterbacks to only 215 passing yards. If they can step up again this week, then they might be able to keep their team in the game.
Why The Packers Could Win
The Green Bay Packers have been one of the best teams in the NFL. Through their first 14 games they have an impressive 11 wins and only 3 losses. The Packers have faced some very tough competition, but have continued to rise to the occasion. Green Bay will face another tough opponent this week, but should have no problem competing with Cleveland. Injuries to both teams will likely have an impact on this game, but that's football. Green Bay has shown resilience and dominance this season and will look to carry on that narrative in Week 16.
Leading the way for the Packers is star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Many people were questioning the veteran's abilities heading into this season, but he has proven all of the haters wrong. Rodgers has been dominant this season. In their win over the Ravens he threw for nearly 270 yards and 3 touchdowns. This type of performance has been typical from the vet. On the season Rodgers has thrown for nearly 3,500 yards, 33 touchdowns (30 passing, 3 rushing), and only 4 interceptions. His quarterback rating is over 110 and he has just been phenomenal. Rodgers will face a tough Cleveland defense, but should have no problem picking them apart. Expect another big week from the dominant force behind this Packers team.
On the defensive side of things, the Packers defense ranks 6th in the league in total yards allowed. Allowing only 2 more yards of offense than the Browns defense, Green Bay has been phenomenal on both sides of the ball. They do a slightly better job than Cleveland at stopping the run and a slightly worse job at stopping the pass, but these two defenses are basically equal. The Browns will likely not keep up with Green Bay and the Packers defense should be able to shut down a struggling Cleveland team.
Final Browns-Packers Prediction & Pick
Everything is pointing Green Bay's way in this one. The Packers have the better offense, the defenses are basically the same, and Green Bay just has the momentum and energy. On top of all that, this game is going to be played in Green Bay, which will make it all the more difficult for Cleveland to keep pace. Pick the Packers to win and cover.
FINAL BROWNS-PACKERS PREDICTION & PICK: Green Bay Packers -7.5 (-106)
