The Philadelphia Eagles will face the New York Jets in an interconference battle on Sunday. It’s time to continue our NFL odds series and make an Eagles-Jets prediction and pick.
These teams didn’t seem to be at hugely different stages to start the season, but the differences have become apparent throughout the season. The Eagles have played themselves into playoff contention in recent weeks, and they currently sit right on the wild card bubble with a 5-7 record. Another loss would pretty much end Philly’s playoff hopes, so this is a must-win game. Meanwhile, the Jets don’t have all that much to play for. They’ve made their way to a 3-8 record behind a rotating group of quarterbacks and rookie head coach Robert Salah. A win against a solid Eagles team would be a big confidence booster, so the Jets should come out and play their best football.

Why Eagles Could Cover the Spread
Aside from last week, this Philadelphia offense has been rolling. The key to the improvement is the newfound ability to run the football. The Eagles managed to put up over 200 yards rushing on two of the best run defenses in the NFL, the Denver Broncos and the New Orleans Saints. The Jets already allow a whopping 128 yards per game to opposing ground games along with 4.5 yards per carry to opposing ballcarriers. Philadelphia should shred the Jets on the ground with ease, control the clock, and win the time of possession battle.
This Eagles defense has far surpassed any expectations set for them this season. They’ve been especially good against the pass, as they allow a mere 228 passing yards per game. Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson has been a turnover machine in every game he’s played, and there’s no reason that should change against one of the league’s better pass defenses. Wilson won’t get much help from his run game either. The Jets only average 86 rushing yards per game, which is one of the worst figures in the league.
Why Jets Could Cover the Spread
New York may get some help from the Philadelphia injury report in this game. The Eagles have several key offensive players questionable in this one, including quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Boston Scott. Running back Jordan Howard has already been ruled out of this contest, giving the Jets some hope of stopping this resurgent run game. If Hurts is forced to sit, backup signal-caller Gardner Minshew will make the start. The Eagles rely on Hurts to spark the run game, so if Minshew is forced to play the Jets should be able to play well defensively.
Philadelphia has had some struggles on the road this season. They dropped an easily winnable game against the New York Giants in New York last week. Philly only managed seven points in that game, and it wasn’t because the Giants are an elite defensive team. The Eagles are one of the most inconsistent teams in the league, and that inconsistency is only magnified when they play on the road.
Final Eagles-Jets Prediction & Pick
Neither of these teams inspire all that much confidence. The Eagles are incredibly unreliable and the Jets are just downright bad. Instead of either team, the over is the best pick here. Philadelphia has the potential to break it on their own here.
Final Eagles-Jets Prediction & Pick: Over: 45 (-110)
