There hasn't been a meaningful game between these two rivals in what seems like a decade, and this matchup isn't any different. The Jets are one of the worst teams in the NFL, proven by their abysmal 3-10 record. New York certainly doesn't have much to play for, but the same can't be said for the Miami. The Dolphins have managed to play their way into playoff contention with a remarkable five-game win streak, a streak that Miami needs to extend here if they want any chance of making the postseason.

Why The Jets Could Cover The Spread
To their credit, the Jets are playing better football now than they were at the start of the season. They managed to keep things close with the New Orleans Saints until the fourth quarter in Week 14, and did the same thing against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13. The last time the Jets faced Miami they managed to only lose by a touchdown. This spread may be giving too much credit to a streaking Dolphins team while overlooking the Jets' improved play.
The NFL was hit with a wave of COVID cases over the last couple of days, and the Dolphins were one of the teams hit the hardest. Miami's entire running back room was placed on the reserve list, along with budding star safety Jevon Holland. The Dolphins have been hammered by normal injuries for much of the season, so this outbreak is just the icing on the cake. The Jets should be facing a weakened version of Miami, giving them a much better chance at covering this spread.
Why The Dolphins Could Cover The Spread
Over the last five games, the Dolphins have shown the defensive brilliance that nearly led them to the playoffs last season. They've allowed more than ten points only once in that stretch, including a fantastic defensive showing against the Baltimore Ravens on national television. Miami has been one of the best teams in the NFL at forcing turnovers, and now they face the noted turnover machine who is Zach Wilson.
The Jets haven't been any good on either side of the ball, so Miami shouldn't have much trouble moving the football here. New York ranks as the fourth-worst run and pass defense in the NFL, and the Dolphins have been playing solid offensive football as of late. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hasn't thrown an interception in a couple of weeks, and he just led his team to a 33-point performance against the Carolina Panthers, one of the best passing defenses in the league. The Jets shouldn't present much of a challenge here.

This is a fairly easy pick. It's surprising to see Miami favored by single digits in this one, but no one's complaining. Lock in the Dolphins and don't look back.
