Why The Patriots Could Win

Mac Jones had a solid first regular-season start in the NFL, completing 29-of-39 passes and throwing for 281 yards and a passing touchdown. The ground game was also strong, with Damien Harris rushing for an even 100 yards on 23 carries. Jones was effective in utilizing his entire receiving corps as well, completing at least five passes to four different receivers.

While the offense fell flat in the second half, so did the Dolphins' offense, a credit to the Pats' defense. This New England defensive unit should have no problem against rookie Zach Wilson, who was sacked six times in his first NFL game. It won't get any easier for Wilson after his team only put up 14 points last week.

Against one of the league's weaker defenses, look for Mac Jones to put on a show in his first road game. The Jets are also battling several injuries to key players, and that will hurt as they may struggle to keep up with a fast-paced Patriots offense.

Why The Jets Could Win

I know that Zach Wilson had a tough outing in his first game in the NFL, but I believe has has great potential in this league. The two touchdowns he threw to Corey Davis are signs of that potential. The Jets always get up for the Pats game, but this year, with Tom Brady out of the picture, New York's chances of earning a victory become much higher.

After keeping the game close against an improved Panthers team, the Jets' defense limits rookie Mac Jones to under 250 yards passing with a couple of interceptions as well. Both teams are 0-1 and the Pats may take the Jets lightly here thinking they're the “same old Jets.”

But going back to the Jets on offense, I think Davis walks in for another touchdown as Wilson noticeably improves off Week 1. Although they've had some injuries lately, this is a new era of Jets football, and they prove that by shutting down the Pats in a way we have not seen in years.

Final Patriots-Jets Prediction & Pick

The Patriots are on upset alert this week! Looking for an easy win at MetLife, the Pats fail to show up against a Jets defense that holds them to under 20 points for the second consecutive week. Zach Wilson throws three touchdowns as the defense gets a late interception of Mac Jones to seal a Jets win. The Pats fall to 0-2 in the process.

FINAL PICK: Jets ML (+205)
