The Tennessee Titans secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a win over the Houston Texans. It's time to continue our NFL odds series with a Titans-Texans prediction and pick.

Before the season started nobody picked the Titans to be the top seed in the AFC. Those picks went even further south the second Derrick Henry got injured. The Titans recently designated him to from the IR, but he likely won't play for a few more weeks. The Titans prevailed after a rough start to the season. They lost to the New York Jets in Week 4 and that is when everyone closed their eyes on the Titans. They went on to later beat the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs (27-3), Indianapolis Colts (twice), Los Angeles Rams, and San Francisco 49ers. That is not an easy schedule and they beat all the good teams. They did lose badly to the New England Patriots and fell to the Texans the last time they met, but one thing is for sure, the Titans are for real.

The Houston Texans played spoiler when they defeated the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16. They didn't get the job done last week, however, as they fell short to the 49ers. They are 4-12 on the season and with a loss, could earn a better draft position. They don't have anything to lose this week so we could see a whole new game plan for the Texans. With a win, they could sweep the Titans which would be a great momentum boost for next season.

Why The Titans Could Cover The Spread

The last time these two teams faced, the Titans were missing a ton of players. They will have a majority of their roster for this game, which gives them a better chance of covering. The Texans didn't look great last week so the Titans shouldn't have to do too much to get it done. They need to get an early advantage by scoring first and making the Texans come from behind. The Titans can't let the Texans take control early because it will be hard for them to come back. We've seen it happen this year and recently, however, as the Titans came back and beat the 49ers in Week 16.

The Titans are coming off a huge 34-3 win over the Miami Dolphins last week. They have a lot of momentum coming into this one and I don't doubt they will cover this spread. The Titans are 10-6 against the spread this season. They will be trying hard to earn that top seed in the AFC for the playoffs.

Why The Texans Could Cover The Spread

This will be a tough game for the Texans to cover. They will be facing the Titans who are nearly at their best. The Titans want that bye week, so this game is not going to come easy for them. If the Texans want to cover, they will need to shut down the run. They can't let the Titans run all over them and control the game. Tennessee is one of the best defenses against the run, and so the Texans aren't going to be able to control the time of possession with their own run game. That means they will be relying on Davis Mills to air it out and hope the passing game can get it done.

The Texans will be ending what was a miserable season. They didn't have the roster to compete coming into the year, so there weren't any expectations for them. A win would give them momentum going into next year after beating a good Titans team twice. The good news for bettors is that the Texans are 7-9 against the spread. They won't go down without a fight.

Final Titans-Texans Prediction & Pick

The Titans covering this spread seems to be the only likely option. I expect them to be playing like it's a playoff game to earn that bye week. It will be interesting to see how the Texans attack the Titans' defense, but either way, I don't think it will be enough.

Final Titans-Texans Prediction & Pick: Titans -10 (-115)
