Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has yet to play in 2019 — as he serves a six-game suspension. However, the rest of the NFL hasn't forgotten about the perennial Pro Bowler. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Cardinals have field trade calls for Peterson from three different teams.
The Cardinals have received “six or seven teams have inquired about Peterson” over the past year, per Schefter. But, the Redbirds brass has spurned all trade offers, telling them they are not interested in trading an eight-time Pro Bowl cornerback.
As Schefter notes, the Cardinals' constant declining of offers hasn't swayed away teams from making calls. Peterson asked for a trade before the 2018 trade deadline. Arizona should continue getting offers up until the Oct. 29th trade deadline.
In May, the NFL announced a six-game suspension for Peterson for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. He filed an appeal to reduce the sentence, but it was later upheld. The suspension snapped his eight-year streak of making the Pro-Bowl, which dates back to his rookie season, 2011. He is the 13th player in NFL history with such a streak.
Peterson hadn't missed a game before his 2019 suspension. He has started all 128 games played for his career, tallying 387 combined tackles, 76 pass deflections and 23 interceptions in the process.
There should be league-wide interest for Peterson if he were to be available. Though 29, the cornerback didn't show signs of slowing down in 2018. He also has two seasons left on his deal, including $13.1 million in 2020, per Over The Cap, a bargain for the caliber of player he is.
