The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed defensive lineman Rodney Gunter, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Gunter visited with the Green Bay Packers last week but left without a deal.

The 27-year-old is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played all 16 games and registered 44 tackles, 4.5 sacks and a couple of forced fumbles.

Gunter, who played his collegiate football at Delaware State, was originally selected by the Cardinals in the fourth round (116th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie season, finishing with 19 tackles and a sack.

In four years with the Cardinals, Gunter never missed a game.

During his second season, the Lake Hamilton, Fl. native totaled 15 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery in a reserve role, and in 2017, he recorded 17 tackles and a sack.

The Cardinals are coming off of a miserable 2018 campaign in which they won just three games, resulting in the firing of head coach Steve Wilks after just one year at the helm. Arizona then replaced him with Kliff Kingsbury earlier this offseason.

The Cards have now missed the playoffs three years in a row after making back-to-back postseason appearances in 2014 and 2015.

Since 1983, the Cardinals have made the playoffs just five times, with their high point coming during the 2008-09 campaign when they made it all the way to the Super Bowl before falling to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Arizona will have the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, and the general consensus is that the Cardinals are going to take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the selection.
