Arizona Cardinals cornerback Josh Shaw has been suspended through the 2020 campaign for betting on NFL games, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football,” said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement.
Shaw has apparently bet on games on “multiple occasions” this season. It is not clear which games he bet on.
The 27-year-old has been on the injured reserve list since late August due to a shoulder injury, so it's not like his gambling has had any effect on the Cardinals' play on the field, but regardless, this is obviously pretty serious.
Shaw, who played his collegiate football at both the University of Florida and the University of Southern California, was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round (120th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.
He played in 15 games during his rookie campaign and had a limited role, logging 15 tackles. The following year, Shaw appeared in every contest and made 12 starts, totaling 47 tackles and an interception. He was demoted back to a reserve role in 2017, finishing with 34 tackles in what ended up being his final season with the Bengals.
Shaw was cut by Cincinnati in September 2018 and proceeded to link up with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he spent four games and tallied four tackles before being released and then signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He participated in four contests with the Buccaneers, recording eight stops and a fumble recovery.
The Cardinals are 3-7-1 on the year and will take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
