The Arizona Cardinals have officially ushered in the Kyler Murray era after taking the quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Now comes the challenge of making the transition to the pro level.
Arizona is doing what they can to get Murray up to speed in organized team activities. According to Darren Urban of the team website, the rookie is taking things one day at a time:
“This is all a process, a learning experience right now,” Murray said Wednesday. “A couple months from now I’ll know everything I didn’t know now. Knowing it’s a process, that’s always been good for me.”
Finding a future franchise quarterback clearly comes with its own set of challenges. What often gets overlooked throughout the process is the team's ability to develop a young player once they arrive. Murray's progression will undoubtedly be of utmost importance as the Cardinals look to flip the script on their woeful track record in recent years.
Perhaps even more intriguing is that Murray will be paired with a head coach that is also looking to find his footing in Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury was brought on for his reputation as an offensive guru at Texas Tech. His first order of business will be ensuring that Murray has all the tools he needs to succeed right away in Arizona.
It is safe to say that the pair will have their hands full trying to turn things around in the 2019 NFL season. Regardless, the main focus this season will likely be centered around Murray's development under Kingsbury.
