Arizona Cardinals quarterback and former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray penned a letter to the potential draftees prior to the start of the 2020 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

In a piece for The Players' Tribune, Murray encouraged all the prospects to appreciate the journey and reflect on all the hard work they put in over the years:

Remember the whole journey. This isn’t about the combine, or the mock drafts, or your last season in college with your boys. It’s not about the last few months. It’s about the years and years that went into this. You all know exactly what I’m talking about. You know.

It’s about the preparation. The perseverance. The nonstop grind. From the time you started throwing the ball in the front yard, or in the middle of the street, running around the neighborhood like crazy, to Pop Warner, to all those long bus rides and the two-a-days. And yeah, it’s about all the disappointments, too. Those tough moments during freshman year when you were texting your family, or your boys back home, just doubting for the first time in your life. (I had that moment, too, 100%.)

Murray also addressed the strange circumstances surrounding this draft.

While the coronavirus pandemic has necessitated a virtual implementation of draft proceedings, Murray still said being drafted to the NFL will still feel like a “dream come true.”

Murray made no bones about saying the first year in the NFL is long and challenging, but he iterated the importance of looking to veteran players for guidance while also showing the willingness to impact various communities and make a difference outside of football.

Even though Murray is preparing for just his second year, he is already carrying himself like a sage veteran. That is good news for incoming Cardinals rookies, who will almost certainly look to their quarterback for advice.
