The Arizona Cardinals have a busy offseason ahead of them both in the 2019 NFL Draft and free agency. It appears they may have gotten a head start on negotiations with defensive end Markus Golden.
Golden is set to become a free agent this offseason. He said during an appearance on Movin’ The Chains that his agent has been in contact with the Cardinals regarding a potential contract extension.

“Arizona gave me the opportunity to play, so we’ll see how it works out. No matter what happens, I’ll be ready and I’ll be prepared because I’m going to keep on working and I’m going to keep putting the work in.”
The Cardinals selected Golden in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He had started to emerge as a bonafide edge rusher when he finished the 2016 campaign with a team-high 16.5 sacks. Unfortunately, he was unable to follow up his stellar season after suffering a torn ACL four games into the 2017 NFL season. As a result, he spent last season clearly trying to find his footing after finishing with just 30 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 11 games.
Despite his recent struggles, Golden has still proven capable of serving as a complementary option opposite of edge rusher Chandler Jones. There is no question that Arizona will look to fortify its defensive front this offseason. The question remains whether or not they feel Golden is durable enough to garner the type of contract extension that he is seeking.
