The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly open to moving on from two of their talented linebackers, Deone Bucannon and Haason Reddick. And apparently, they are “stepping up their efforts” to deal the former.

Per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

Cardinals are stepping up their efforts to deal former 1st round pick Deone Bucannon as they realign and adjust from this slow start. Should be one of the most interesting teams, by far, ahead of the trade deadline.

Bucannon, a former first-round pick by the Cardinals in 2014, was a regular starter under former coach Bruce Arians’ offense as a hybrid linebacker/safety. Over the first four years of his career, he played in 57 games (50 starts) and made 376 tackles with two interceptions and four forced fumbles.

However, he has not been an ideal fit under new head coach Steve Wilks’ system as he’s seen his playing time cut significantly this season.

Bucannon has shown he can be a capable contributor to a top defense under the right system. However, it remains to be seen whether he can garner sufficient interest in the trade market given that he’s on an expiring contract.

Bucannon’s currently playing out the fifth-year option of his rookie deal, and is making $8.71 million this year.
