The day of the 2019 NFL Draft is finally upon us. Later tonight, the first round will get underway, but we still don't know what the Arizona Cardinals plan on doing with the top pick. The assumption has long been that they'll take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, but there's been some pushback on that in recent weeks.
Nobody knows for sure what they're going to do, but one thing is for sure. If the Cardinals do draft Murray, they'll look to trade Josh Rosen. A number of teams have been mentioned as potential suitors for Rosen, including the New England Patriots. But don't count on the defending Super Bowl champions making a trade for Rosen, ESPN's Adam Schefter said on a recent podcast appearance, per Tyler Sullivan of 247Sports.
“I don't see New England doing that,” Schefter said. “I just don't see that happening. Again, Arizona is going to want a two, don't see New England giving up a two. I don't think that's where they were on the guy last year. Now could their feelings change one year later? Look, I guess, but that's not something I see New England pursuing. If he's sitting there and Arizona wanted, I don't know, a sixth or seventh round pick, would New England be interested at that time? Maybe they'd kick it around, but Arizona's not going to do that so it's a moot point.”
Schefter thinks the two sides would be pretty far apart on compensation, and he interestingly notes that the Pats weren't that high on Rosen coming out of college last year. New England has been buzzed about a lot because of their desire to locate the future franchise quarterback for once Tom Brady retires, but it just doesn't seem like they're that enthused by Rosen.
Right now it seems like Rosen's most likely destinations are still the Redskins, Chargers, or Dolphins, all of whom have been talked about as landing spots recently.
